In 1794, the famous École Polytechnique (Polytechnic School) was founded in Paris during the French Revolution. The same year, around 8,000 kilometres away, the first technical school outside of Europe came into existence in Madras (Chennai). Due to the growing need for surveyors by the East India Company, the ‘School of Survey’ was established in a building near Fort St. George on the suggestion of Michael Topping in 1794.

The admission to UG programmes is purely based on the marks obtained in the Higher Secondary examinations. The admission of students to all the programmes is through a Single Window Admission System, administered by Anna University. The higher secondary marks are scaled to 200, based on which the merit list/ ranks are released. Counselling is conducted based upon the ranking.
For Part-Time- Admission forms, applicable only to ACT, MIT and CEG. are released online in the website in the month of October. Rank lists based upon the diploma score are hence released and counselling is conducted based upon the ranking.
College of Engineering, Guindy Admission Process
College of Engineering, Guindy Admissions 2024: The college offers admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. CEG Guindy admissions to B.Tech courses are done based on the candidate’s performance in 10+2. Eligible candidates must appear for the state-level counselling - Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA), conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu. College of Engineering, Guindy admission process for M.Tech and MBA courses is done based on scores of candidates in TANCET. Qualified candidates must attend the TANCA counselling process.
