Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE), Madurai, founded by Late. Shri. Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar was established in 1957. TCE is one of several educational institutions founded by the late philanthropist and educationist, Kalaithanthai Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar, who was a great visionary with a mission of transforming lives through education. He was bestowed with the moral and social responsibility of building up this institution with an objective of serving the society. A staunch nationalist and a great industrialist, he led a life of sacrifice. As an exceptional social savant, he left his footprints in the sands of time in all facets of his social life. Being a discrete reader, his passion for language was evident as he possessed a great command over the language of Tamil. Kalaithanthai Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar was a holistic personality with spiritual aura and soul.
Admission
Candidates with their subjects of study as Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in HSC (Plus Two) are eligible to apply. Admission will be based on the performance of the candidate in the Higher Secondary Examination (Aggregate Score of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry). The candidates shall also be required to satisfy all other conditions of admission prescribed by the College, University and Government to Tamil Nadu from time to time.

TCEAA provides financial support to such needy students based on a merit cum means basis. The donations received from the alumni are deposited as corpus fund in TCE Alumni Charitable Trust and the interest earned from that is used for student scholarships.

Transportation services, including well-maintained buses with defined routes, ensure convenient commuting for students and staff. Laboratory facilities across departments are outfitted with modern tools and equipment, providing students with hands-on learning experiences.
