About Us

Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) (formerly known as Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET)) was established in 1968 by Government of India with the assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at Chennai. The main objective of setting up of this specialized institute was to develop manpower in different disciplines of Plastics Engineering & Technology as no similar institute was in existence in the country. International Labour Organization (ILO) served as the executing agency. During the initial project period between 1968 and 1973, the institute achieved the targets envisaged and was rated as one of the most successful UNDP projects implemented worldwide

The minimum eligibility marks for various categories for M.E. / M.Tech. / MBA Degree Courses are listed below:

A 'Pass' in recognized bachelor's degree obtaining atleast 50% of the qualifying examination (45% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) Candidates who pass in the qualifying degree course will appear for TANCET Exam

For M.E the eligibility qualifications are:
10+2+3 years pattern (or)
10 + 3 years Diploma + 3 years pattern (or)
B.E. / B.Tech. course

CIPET Chennai Placements
Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology, Chennai has a placement cell on campus which contacts companies and organises placement drive. During the placements 2022 of CIPET Chennai, a total of 88 students were placed, as per National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 report. During the CIPET Chennai placements 2022, 70 UG graduates and 18 PG graduates were placed.
